Answers to Monday Question and Comments

Literacy program

"Did you know that Dr. Diaz's new literacy plan simply consists of spending 1 million dollars on books that elementary teachers do not need or want. They already have textbooks that they do not use. The new textbooks are going to just gather dust the same as the Scott Foresman text books. Dr. Diaz plans to "confiscate" the Scott Foresman textbooks from the teachers. As if they are so unprofessional that they can not be trusted to keep the books. It makes one wonder what Dr. Diaz is getting from Houghton Mifflin for this order that the teachers do NOT want. "

"Dr. Diaz has agreed with Houghton Mifflin to travel and promote their textbooks."

Shooting at game

"Why was the football game allowed to continue last weekend? What kind of a message does that send to kids that someone can be shot and the game goes on. "

Potty-gate

"How much has been spent on the remodeling of Dr. Diaz's office? It has been more that just a whisper quiet toilet. That is money that is supposed to be spent on the schools and children"

Blogger comment: What was the cost of the new dishwasher installed in Diaz's office? There were new blinds installed, painting. Anyone know the actuala costs?

Diaz less than truthful?

"Dr. Diaz told the Chamber of Commerce Educatiion Committee that she had placed "her 4 top administrators" on administrative leave and then shook her finger at the group and said that heads would roll if she heard this out in the community. We were all puzzled that she would speak to a group of professionals in this manner. As if we were school children or employees."

Is it true that Dr. Diaz is using money from high school and middle school science texts to buy the new textbooks for the elementary? I have heard that the orders for high schools and middle schools were cut drastically to buy these new books. I have talked to a few elementary teachers and they do not even want these books. That is a waste of school money.

The big story here is the textbook change in the elementary schools. Reading books and materials are currently in place and district teachers were involved in buying those materials. Now Dr. Diaz, without teacher input, has decided to buy new materials. The money is being taken from middle schools and high schools. At no time did elementary teachers ask for this change, and they were not involved in this decision. Why is this being done?
