Michael Swickard's Response
To the Blog owner: Sorry to be cranky with you but you said on your very first blog posting:LCPS Underground This blog was created to share information about Las Cruces Public Schools. This information is not coming from or associated with Las Cruces Public Schools, the official LCPS website or spokesperson. ****The purpose is dissemination of fact, not rumor. **** The public has a right to know what is happening within this school district. Fear of retaliation has necessitated this avenue.
On Friday, November 10, 2006 at 5:40 a.m. you posted:Anything with Michael Swickard PHD must be taken with knowledge of his agenda and live in girlfriend who has a vested interest in the promotion of "her" promoted reading program at Valley View. What a scam!!!
Michael Swickard responds:I did not see the above posting yesterday, but was asked about it while I was on Titletown Sports Talk this morning on KSNM-AM 570 during the 9 o’clock hour. The Facts: Janet and I do not have a live-in relationship. There are plenty of people who know where I live and where she lives it is at least a mile apart. While in today’s world most people do not frown on living together, the posting was false and appears to be intent upon harm.
Second: neither Janet nor I have a vested interest in anything connected with reading at Valley View beyond that she was hired this year away from Highland Elementary to teach reading. She does not have a promoted reading program at Valley View. There is no scam. She does teach reading and is successful the program she did use was Scott Foresman which the district adopted a couple of years ago She has been told not to use it. She was on the adoption committee that selected Scott Foresman.
Also, I do represent as a consultant three supplemental reading software publishers through an association with a distributor in El Paso. This does not have anything to do with Valley View or Janet, rather, it is a connection with the Lions Crane Reading Foundation, a non-profit working with public schools all over New Mexico. I am on their board of directors. Last year, before I was associated with the Lions Crane Reading Foundation, that organization worked with Valley View in the area of getting glasses for kids who cannot see and providing supplemental reading support for non-intuitive readers. Everything that is at Valley View preceded Janet and myself so we are not connected in any way with anything that can be called a scam. These supplemental programs are not a scam plenty of research data to confirm this but, again, Valley View having these supplemental programs is not connect to me or Janet. These supplemental programs are in about half of the elementary schools in the LCPS.
The best of the anonymous comments are tempered with times like these where someone is able to smear untruthfully without consequence. I like this blog and feel it is needed, but please be more careful about people who do not tell the truth. I think it appropriate to remove the comment.

Michael Swickard - now you know what it feels like to listen to your radio show when you constantly give half-informed comments and your listeners are not be able to react afterward. You do this all the time on your show and that's why the comments about you and your teacher/companion were probably made.
I agree with Michael Swickard.
Thanks for your continued monitoring of this blog. Blogger has done a great job.
Lets try to all keep our focus on the issues at hand. This blog isnt about reading programs or talk show hosts. It is about a problem with our school board and our superintendant.
What a loser. he didn't get a degree you gave him. No PHD, why don't you check the "facts" before you say PHD. He was a loser in high school. They took him off the football team if you cared to check it out. I was on the team with him at Mayfield. Bet "Dr" Swickard doesn't want anyone to know he didn't graduate. the secrets out.
"When you make a mistake, the best thing to do is realize it, admit it, and do what you can to correct it. That's often embarrassing and costly." Mr. Todd, do you practice what you preach?
I would like to thank the person who is running this blog. I think it is very courageous to post opposing viewpoints. I would like to respond to the viewpoints being expressed by some people that think Mr. Briseno is a racist. I have known him for some time and believe that he is a principled individual who has a strong sense of social justice. The fact that many institutions, including our schools are rife with institutional racism cannot be ignored, and it is the duty of those of us who have experience with this to challenge it at every opportunity. Mr. Briseno has done this. I suspect that those who benefit the most from his vigilance do not have access to this blog or any other. Their support however, was demonstrated in the last election when Mr. Briseno defeated Mrs. "Viva Ogas". The voters have spoken and the silent majority has spoken in favor of the vigilance and determination demonstrated by Mr. Briseno. Thank You. You are not alone. One more thing... Mr. Todd states that when you make a mistake you should admit it and move on. I'm trying to remember if you admitted wrongdoing when you were indicted for embezzeling money from an elderly person you were supposed to be protecting? Please refresh my memory. Perhaps the stones you cast should be directed at the "good ol boys" who cannot accept change.
Thick skin required as a conservative radio host Swickard! Toughen up a little. Nobody is really coming on here to read about your per se'. This is about Diaz and the LCPS problems. Your just an instrument in the band.
