Textbooks
"Is it true that Dr. Diaz is using money from high school and middle school science texts to buy the new textbooks for the elementary? I have heard that the orders for high schools and middle schools were cut drastically to buy these new books. I have talked to a few elementary teachers and they do not even want these books. That is a waste of school money. "
"The one million dollars is coming from money that is supposed to be spent on high schools, middle schools and bilingual education. What a great idea that is. We'll just let the secondary and bilingual students suffer so elementary teachers can have books they don't need! Thanks, Dr. Diaz for leading our schools right down the toilet. I sure hope it is a really quiet toilet!!! HA HA HA"
Diaz's Driver
"Now she has the Transportation Director acting as her personal driver. She probably thinks that is in his job description. "

The fact is that the school board members chose to hire Diaz in spite of glaring performance issues in her last 3 jobs. That choice has seen Diaz, with the help of a high priced "transition team" of friends, reduce LCPS employee morale to an all time low in less than 150 days. The fact is that the long term damage done to the LCPS organization by Diaz and the "transition team" increases daily. Instead of healing wounds left from the previous superintendent debacle and moving foward, LCPS is sustaining new and deeper wounds. How long before the school board accepts that they've made a bad hiring decision? Hopefully before extending Diaz' contract to 2009.
Why is there a driver for the Superintendent to ANYWHERE? She is paid hundreds of dollars a month for a car allowance! When is the School Board going to wake up?
I want to know more about these textbooks that the elementary teachers don't even want and the funds are coming from the middle and high school allocations. My middle school age son deserves the same materials as my elementary age son. Who can shed more light on this?
I understand that Dr. Diaz is friends with many of the "new" textbook authors. Supposedly, they all went to Harvard together.I wonder if she gets a kick-back from awarding such a big contract to Houghton Mifflin???????
Interesting stuff from the Bridgeport Connecticut newspaper about our illustrious super, her chauffeur (darn Sonia, I spelled that right and didn't even go to Harvard,)and the deficit she left behind. We need to get rid of this lousy school board because 3 strikes and your out will be too late for our children!
As an elementary teacher we were told last week that Diaz is goin to bring in Houton Mifflin and replace the ENTIRE reading curriculum in time for students to begin using it in January. Teachers are supposed to "review" the materials over thier holiday break.
PDT's were told to specifically tell the teachers about this change during PLC and "sugar coat it" as a positive change.
Never mind the fact that 4th grade teachers are getting ready for the CRT at that time and how are they supposed to switch this curriculum mid school year?
WHERE is the $$$ comming from? Why was there no adoption committee formed on this? The current text books (Scott Foresman) is only 3 years old on a 5 year adoption....what happens to the old books?
WHO APPROVED THIS? Did the School Board approve this? Why weren't parents, teachers or administrators asked about this?
