Tuesday Morning 11-7
CLOSED MEETING: Blogger comment: There were a number of questions about the closed meeting today. The Board will convene and go into a closed session. Any action must be in an open meeting. So, after the closed session, the Board will reconvene in open session and either take action or adjourn. If the Board is performing the 90 evaluation, they could award Diaz a year of district purchased NM retirement credit. This must be done in open session. The problem is that most interested parties grow tired of waiting and leave before the Board reconvenes.
Sharon Wooden made a statement in the Sun-News this morning that "Diaz has largely performed up to the school board's expectations. " If that doesn't send a chill up your spine...
It might make the Board think if the Board room was full, even though it is a closed session. Unfortunately, many of us are working at 3:30 pm. If you can be there, please show up!
Going to work at a department store such as Dr. Diaz threatened administrators with at the August administrative retreat is much more palatable than coming work to institute her "vision," whatever that might be... Even we who did not graduate from Havard are more than able to realize that the emperor has no new suit of clothes. It is time that she is exposed to the public before anymore damage is done to a district of very decent, hardworking Las Cruceans who truly know, and have our students' best interests at heart.
Is it true that as a condition of her employment Dr. Diaz was given a year of tenure for every 90 days on the job? All she has to do is last 15 months to be vested in New Mexico! Blogger comment: The bonus Diaz is supposed to receive after 90 days is the purchase of one year of out-of-state experience for NM retirement . This could be a substantial. If anyone has seen her actual contract, please correct me if this is not accurate.
Where is the NEA on this? The teacher's union has the strength to address this issue without fear of reprisal. If the administrators try to revolt with out the support of NEA, we will be picked off one by one. Let's take a petition to the board with 3000 signatures asking for the removal of Sonia Diaz. We could use some of that textbook money and buy out her contract. We'll get a bigger "bang for the buck".
DON'T FORGET TO VOTE
I enjoy reading the blog, but I must say that much of the problem with morale is the fault of No Child Left Behind. As an educator in the district I have had the opportunity of visiting many parts of the state. Morale is very low wherever you go. November 7th is a great opportunity to start the process of changing this ill conceived, non-funded mandate that reduces teachers to robots teaching to the test. Vote to rid us of any candidate that has supported the bush admin., then turn to local problems.

I am so glad that I just read about this blog today in the Sun-News article about the closed session of the Board. I will make every effort to attend. I have always thought my kid's teachers were saints, now even more so after what this district has been put through with this nasty piece of work.
I had been hearing little bits and pieces of stuff from my friends who work in the central office or teach in the schools, but everyone is very "dicreet" and usually seems afraid to talk openly about their experiences. However, I have even heard about Diaz from friends who DON'T work in the schools, but at the stores, restaurants and businesses in town that have had the unfortunate opportunity to have to deal with her arrogant, rude sense of entitlement. Every single one of them described her as a "_itch", without any hesitation. Pretty sad. (Also, some say she seems to be obsessed with her hair to the point of it being a mental disorder--but I digress.)
One comment I have is that after reading this blog, clearly Diaz has a track record of conning districts to hire her, running amok, then using her pre-negotiated "golden parachute" buy-outs of her contracts to fund her lifestyle until the next con job. She gets away with it because it takes too much time for them to catch up to her fiendish ways, unless you are really good at combing the internet or public records. Isn't this a form of white collar crime we call FRAUD?!!!!
She clearly is not rehabilitatable (is that a word?). She needs to go, and go fast before any more bodies fall. But we need a HUGE backlash from the community to force the bad board members out, replace them with competents, and to change the way we hire these superintendants to include intense personal background checks.
NEA is monitoring and very concerned and has voiced these concerns openly at board meetings and privately with board members and Diaz.
Sharon Wooden doesn't have a clue. None of the board members have a clue. They each have their own agenda--with one thing in common --to destroy the district-Can anyone list anything positive that has come during this boards tenure?
For those who may be thinking of running for school board I would like to see some information on this blog. How do you apply? What credentials do you need? Who can apply? Who is up for re-election? What districts are they in? Etc... I don't think most people have a clue. I know I don't, but I know some fine people who might run if they knew when or how.
Also, I read that we only need 3000 signatures. Would an LCPS employee get fired for getting those signatures? Would they get fired for being one of those 3000 signatures?
As an employee of the LCPS, I can say that "she who shall remain nameless" has walked in here, treated us like a bunch of hicks, and ruled through fear. Well, soon enough, she'll have burned all of her bridges, and will find herself being kicked to the curb, which is more than she deserves. We need to focus on hiring people from within to lead us, not pretentious types from back east.
KVIA Channel 7 covered the closed board meeting today. They quoted this blog website several times. Interview with Dr. Diaz was just as nebulous as the interview on 570 Radio with Michael Swickard. She seems to be a master of deception and corruption!
Will the Board do the right thing??? Dr. Diaz needs to be placed on administraitve leave so the Board can conduct a full investigation. As long as she is 'on the job' fear will override LCPS staff's ability to be open and honest aobu ther disgraceful and demeaning behavior. Everything horror story you hear is true. The Board needs to wake up--LCPS had developed a strong literacy initiative way before Dr. Dark graced the school district's door! This is the Board's last chance to show they have any sense at all!
