The Board of Education have behaved consistently as bullies. Simply put, they hired a bully and they are supporting an environment of harassment and intimidation.
What are our board and superintendent trying to achieve? High priced salaries for less than fabulous employees, not recognizing work done by past administrators, leave pay prior to any work being done????It is time for serious consideration of a board recall! I understand that the superintendent is to be on the Michael Swickard show on AM 570 on Monday morning, Nov. 6 at 9 am. We should all quit working and LISTEN!
Bonus? Could there possibly be any money left? Remember what a deficit LCPS was already in? Can we afford Dr. Diaz and her habits? This concerned parent will be at the next school board meeting. I want some answers
It is money LCPS doesn't have! Can you say budget cut, Dr. Diaz?
This smells like a familiar smell, but I can not quite place it. Ah yes, I remember, Jessie Gonzales. Does anyone remember what happened to those school board members?
Think it is time that the board realizes that someone needs to go. Will it be Dr. Diaz or the board?
I want to know more about these textbooks that the elementary teachers don't even want and the funds are coming from the middle and high school allocations. My middle school age son deserves the same materials as my elementary age son. Who can shed more light on this?
I am a parent of two boys in LCPS.I am appalled to the point of feeling ill. I know there are more parents looking at this. I want to know what you think. I think we need to go to the next board meeting. Are we going to just sit back and allow misappropriation of funds? Are schools are already lacking the money to provide the best education for our children. Are we going to let Dr. Diaz and the school board run anymore Las Crucens out of Central Office so she can bring her "friends" who obviously have questionable morals and character. Do we even want these people in charge of the schools that educate our children? We need to go and get some answers before this goes on any longer! I would also like to know why the Sun News has not reported any of this?Blogger comment: The Sun-News has been strangely silent - not even any sound-offs published. However, the paper has requested records. Whether anything will be done with the information remains to be seen.
This violation alone is enough to get rid of the school board. Didn't they learn anything from their predecessors?
I would like to know what administrators went on this trip to Orlando?
$20.000 for two days. I could work 4 days a year and then rest. It pays to be friends with Dr. Diaz. Anyone know how I can get a hold of her and be her friend?
The Las Cruces Sun News should ask for the expenditures from the Superintendent's activity account fund. The LCPS vending contract provides for $8,000 per month to into this account. This activity account has never been scrutinized and if there are "shenanigans" they may show up here. One issue to consider in this account is whether the funds would be considered to be generated by students or by adults. If the funds are determined to be generated by students, then all funds must be expended on students. There is more latitude if the funds are determined to grow from the pockets of staff, but in all circumstances the expenditures must be as permitted by district policy, state procurement code, state and federal law. Blogger comment: We checked on that account and no more money is being put in the Supt. Activity account from the vendor contract. That stopped with Louis Martinez. Diaz is spending what was left over in that account. Wonder what she’ll do when it is gone? But the reader is correct that the funds are subject to the same regulations, etc.

Dr. Wooden and Mr. Schwebke are up for re-election in February. It is important that they are NOT re-elected.

All expenditures are public record. Under the Freedom of Information Act, any person can obtain information from a government agency. There are some exemptions, however. Some information that is protected by court orders or is considered confidential cannot be accessed.
As a Las Cruces community member, it is my clear understanding that Diaz has been directed by the school board to make "certain" heads roll. The despicable, demeaning and humiliating methods used to oust Joann Patton, Jerry Laws and Jack Jenkins at LCPS were Diaz "methods of operation" but ultimately she is doing the bidding of the school board.
If this is the school boards idea of building a foundation for solid public education, supporting children and teachers in the classroom, creating trust, healing old wounds, and good leadership I'd hate to see their take on destruction, manipulation, fiscal mismanagement, lack of scruples and none existent ethics.
It's time for members of the community to hold the school board responsible and accountable for hiring Diaz and their involvement in LCPS at a level that is not "policy" setting.
The new "advisory" committees are not policy related. Make no mistake, the committees are the vehicle for even greater micro-management by the school board of LCPS.
Have you read the article by Dr. Diaz in the Bulletin? She states that her "work has never been to divide a community". Her talents seem to reside solely in divisiveness and contempt for existing programs and personnel.
She says that she and Board have established their Mission. Too bad she hasn't shared that Mission with anyone.
With her record she is not qualified to address deficiences in any area.
As far as I am concerned the LC Sun News has let us down. I am going to cancel my subcription. Last week a number of parents from one the high school booster clubs repeatedly called in comment about the superintendent and the board. We called in about sports, the new schedule, the fact that our science teachers did not receive their materials so the superintendent can waste money on books that elementaries don't need, and other issues. Not one made it in there. The LC Sun News has made it clear they are in total support of the superintendent. I thought newspapers were supposed to be impartial. It says they're doing an investigation. The accounts will all be empty by the time they finish. We need to call the El Paso news stations.
